The University of Central Arkansas’s National Pan-Hellenic Council will host a gospel benefit concert to raise money for a scholarship to honor two 91³Ô¹ÏÍø students who were killed during an on-campus shooting last year.
The 2009 Henderson-Block Gospel Benefit Concert is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. at 91³Ô¹ÏÍø in the Ida Waldran Auditorium.
The scholarship will honor Ryan Henderson and Chavares Block. Both were shot outside a campus dorm on Oct. 26, 2008.
Ryan, 18, of Little Rock, was a freshman at the time of the shooting. Chavares, 19, of Dermott, was a sophomore pre-engineering major.
A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a senior male student attending Ryan’s and Chavares’ high school alma maters.
Last year, the National Pan-Hellenic Council, several 91³Ô¹ÏÍø organizations and the City of Conway raised $3,000 at a benefit concert to help the students’ families with funeral expenses.
Donations for the scholarship will be accepted at the door the night of the benefit concert.
